The Light is ON for You!

Confession – The Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation
Lent 2018
Welcome to this first of five of simple steps in celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation!

The phrase
The Light is ON for You is such a clear, straight-forward invitation I couldn’t resist borrowing it from the Archdiocese of Washington. Cardinal Wuerl and his diocese have produced some plain informative, useful, materials to help you with the second and subsequent steps if you are hesitant, go to the website http://thelightison.org/ watch the Youtube films and find the light is ON for you, here! Supported and encouraged by what you’ve seen, take the third step, find a church near you, a time that suits you and prepare to stand in the light of God’s mercy. Fourth step, go and make your confession, celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation, experience again the compassion and forgiveness of God. Step five; rejoice! in the peace of knowing that your sins are forgiven in the love of the Lord of Jesus Christ who died on the cross precisely that you could have that peace the world cannot give and the life in him that leads to eternal joy.
There is nothing more to it and be assured you have my support and prayers,
                                                                                                                                    +Peter

‘Forgiveness is the most visible sign of the Father’s love which Jesus sought to reveal by his entire life. Every page of the Gospel is marked by this imperative of a love that loves to the point of forgiveness. Even at the last moment of his earthly life, as he was being nailed to the cross, Jesus spoke words of forgiveness: “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34)’ (Misercordia et Misera 2 Apostolic Letter of Pope Francis)

“In the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation we feel the embrace of the Father, who comes forth to meet us and grant us the grace of being once more his sons and daughters. We are sinners and we bear the burden of contradiction between what we wish to do and what we do in fact (cf. Rom7:14-21). … God makes us understand his great love for us precisely when we recognise that we are sinners. Grace is stronger than sin: it overcomes resistance, because love conquers all (cf. 1Cor.13:7).
“In the sacrament of Forgiveness God shows us the way to turn back to him and invites us to experience his closeness anew. …”  (Misercordia et Misera 8 Apostolic Letter of Pope Francis)
‘I fear God no more; I go forward to wander forever in a wilderness made of God’s infinite mercy alone.’ (Selected Poetry Jessica Powers)

‘In Christ you give your people a season of reconciliation and grace: a time to draw new breath for our journey back to you, a time to open our hearts to your Spirit and respond to the needs of all.’ (Roman Rite)

Bless God, who forgives your sin and heals every illness,
who snatches you from death and enfolds you with tender care,
who fills your life with richness and gives you an eagle’s strength.
(Psalm 103:3-5)
