Rev Iain Cameron, celebrates 35 years as a Permanent Deacon at St Mary's Cathedral, Wrexham
Rev Iain Cameron celebrated 35 years of ordination to the Permanent Deaconate at a special Mass held at St Mary's Cathedral, Wrexham on the 19th November 2016 alongside his wife Vicky, his children and grandchildren and parishioners of the parish.
During his homily, Canon Simon Treloar gave thanks for Deacon Iain's long and outstanding ministry in both the Diocese of Wrexham and the parish of St Mary's. He thanked him on behalf of all parishioners both past and present for the selfless devotion that he and his family have given to the Church.
The Order of Deacon has three essential functions: the proclamation of the Gospel, the service of the liturgy, and the administration of charitable works. Iain has proclaimed the Gospel for thirty five years and has faultlessly served the liturgy in the parish for over three decades. Most noticeably are his works of charity - leading the R.C.I.A for many years, prayer groups and visiting the sick in his role as hospital Chaplain at the Maelor Hospital. Through this special ministry, Iain has visited tens of thousands of sick patients, administering Holy Communion, comforting the dying and lending a loving, sympathetic, and caring ear to those most vulnerable people in their time of need.
During a very moving address, Deacon Iain gave thanks to all those people who have helped him in his ministry, most importantly his loving wife Vicky and his family but also to clergy past and present for their support and guidance, and to the people of the Cathedral parish as a whole.
At a special reception following the Mass, Bishop Peter paid tribute to Iain, his wife Vicky and the family for their selfless dedication of service that they have shown not only to the parish but also to the Diocese of Wrexham.
Although Deacon Iain has now semi retired, he will continue with his ministry in the Cathedral Parish of St Mary's, which is a true blessing to us all.
On behalf of all parishioners, clergy and all those lives that you have touched through your ministry, we offer you our very sincere thanks and gratitude which words alone could never convey.
