Jubilee Celebrations at Hawarden
Bishop Peter Brignall along with parishioners and priests from around the Diocese of Wrexham, celebrated a special Mass to mark the end of the Golden Jubilee year of the Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart, Hawarden. Also in attendance were distinguished guests, Lord Barry Jones and Lady Janet Jones, and the Vice-chair of Hawarden Community Council, Cllr David Mackie and his consort Mrs Doreen Mackie.
Representatives from local Religious congregations joined in with the celebrations along with the Baptist Minister and Chaplain of HMP Berwyn, Rev James Morgan.
From the 1920s Mass has been celebrated at Hawarden, with a resident priest living on site since the mid-1930s . During the early 1960s, plans were drawn up to build the Church of The Sacred Heart which was finally opened in 1967.
During the Mass, Bishop Peter gave thanks to the current parishioners and their priest Fr. Roy of the Society of Divine Vocations, remembering too all past parishioners and priests who have served them including benefactors of the parish, both living and dead
