Pilgrims come in their hundreds on the Annual Diocesan Pilgrimage to
St Winefride's Well, despite the poor weather!
Sunday saw the close of a week full of celebrations at St Winefride's Well with the annual Diocesan Pilgrimage to the shrine. Despite inclement weather, pilgrims turned out in their hundreds from all over the country and packed the marquee that was erected in the grounds.
The pilgrimage was led by Bishop Peter and the Mass was concelebrated by priests from all over our diocese in which five young ladies received their first Holy Communion.
Following the Mass, Pilgrims passed through the 'Door of Mercy' as they entered the Shrine to venerate the relic of St Winefride making this a very special pilgrimage indeed.
Our Holy Father, Pope Francis put Pilgrimage at the heart of this Year of Mercy... It is heartening to witness the vast numbers of pilgrims who still to this day come on pilgrimage to St Winefride's Well which is believed to be one of the oldest sites of unbroken pilgrimage throughout the UK.
