New Temporary Confessionals installed at St Winefride's Well for
The Year of Mercy
Bishop Peter has further responded to Pope Francis’ Jubilee of Mercy – ‘Bringing God’s Mercy to all’ by having two ‘pop up’ confessionals installed at the shrine of St Winefride’s Well at Holywell, North Wales.
The confessionals were erected in time for the Annual Diocesan Pilgrimage to the shrine which took place on Sunday 26 June and will remain in situ until the end of the Year of Mercy this November.
St Winefride’s Well attracts over 50,000 pilgrims and visitors annually from all over the world and through providing the means for Confession at the shrine, it gives a greater opportunity for the faithful to receive God’s Mercy through the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
The installation of the ‘Pop up confessionals’ comes in addition to the Portable Door of Mercy which Bishop Peter transported around the Diocese during the Lenten Season which enabled both the elderly and the sick of the diocese to pass through the door.
The confessionals at St Winefride's Well are situated on a lawned area that is set back from the shrine which will ensure privacy for the penitent and will be served by priests of the Diocese of Wrexham.
Pope Francis during his message for the 31st World Youth Day said “Do not be afraid! God is waiting for you! God is a Father and he is always waiting for us! It is so wonderful to feel the merciful embrace of the Father in the Sacrament of Reconciliation to discover that the confessional is a place of mercy”.
