Pilgrims follow in the footsteps of King Henry V
from Shrewsbury Abbey to St Winefride's Well.
Six centuries ago Henry V made a pilgrimage from Shrewsbury to Holywell in Flintshire, to give thanks for his famous victory over the French at Agincourt.
This week, six centuries later, a group of pilgrims re-traced his steps setting off from Shrewsbury Abbey on 18th June, ending up at St Winefride's Well on Friday 24th. The pilgrims - including one dressed as Henry V - were welcomed into Holywell on 24 June at an interdenominational service led by Bishop Peter and Presided by Bishop Gregory (Bishop of St Asaph).
Also in attendance were Mr David Hanson - MP Delyn, Hannah Blyddyn - AM Delyn, Peter Curtis - Chair of Flintshire County Council, Cllr Joe Johnson and his wife - Mayor and Mayoress of Holywell.
The following day, 'King Henry' re - enacted praying and then bathing in the waters whilst being filmed by the popular television program ' Songs of Praise'. Lolita, the assistant custodian of the Well was then interviewed for the program which will be aired on the 17th July 2016.
St Winefrides Well has been a place of unbroken pilgrimage for centuries and remains as relevant today as it was centuries ago where tens of thousands of people from all over the world come on pilgrimage each year.
