Teaching Staff from around the Diocese of Wrexham attend Catholic Diocesan School Conferences
The summer term started with large gatherings of school staff meeting in two Catholic education conferences.
The first brought together all the secondary teachers for a day at the St Richard Gwyn High School, Flint, to study ’Learning’ within the context of the church school.
John West- Burnham, a much acclaimed international speaker led the day on ‘Learning for Life’, the importance of deep and profound learning in the Catholic school and community. The day was supported by speakers from the diocesan secondary schools and proved to be an inspiring day for teachers.
The second conference was held at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Flint, where the speaker, Margaret Lillis, from the Shrewsbury Diocese, led a day for staff who are ‘Assistants’ in the work of education.
Over a hundred people learned about the beliefs and purpose of the Catholic school, the value and vocation of all staff and ways in which they support and build the school community.
Earlier this year, Bishop’s Conference in a statement said:
‘The partnership between home and parish is enhanced by the role of the Catholic school in which the educational mission of the Church finds a particular and important expression (Cf General Directory for Catechesis n 259).’ ‘We salute and thank the senior management teams and governors of our schools for their work in fostering our schools as communities of faith…’
Mrs Rita Price, Director of Education for the Diocese of Wrexham said "The conferences gave teaching staff plenty to think about, to pray about and to practice, all of which will benefit the children that we serve".
