The Discalced Carmelite Family consists of the friars, the enclosed nuns and the seculars. It is the one Order with the same charism. The Order is nourished especially by the doctrine of the Carmelite Doctors of the Church, St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross and the Order’s other Saints, especially St. Therese of Lisieux. The apostolate of all three branches of the Discalced Carmelite Order is prayer. As one Pope so wisely said, “without prayer, there is no Carmel.”
