FOCCUS is a research-based self-report or diagnostic inventory. It is designed for couples considering committing themselves to a long-term relationship such as the responsibilities of children and marriage.

The FOCCUS Inventory © Foccus Inc is neither a test nor a way to predict the future. The statements are designed to help you to identify the topics you need and want to talk about as a couple. They can help you to study, understand and communicate openly about many things that are important for your relationship.

The scoring report sorts each partner's responses into categories and patterns to help you recognise your areas of strength or challenge. It provides "patterns for discussion" within categories that include topics on which you disagree or are uncertain, or have answered in ways that the authors' think may be problematic for you.
The "non-contentious" list includes the topics on which you are in agreement with each other and with the authors' notion of what is likely to be preferable for you.
The FOCCUS report is sent to your facilitator who will go through it with you in detail..

FOCCUS reflects the values and ideals of marriage as sacred whether or not the wedding is a civil one or a
part of a religious ceremony.

FOCCUS facilitators do not encourage couples into easily agreeing with something. Couples need to really identify with and own an issue correctly. They are not given a solution before they have really named the problem. Facilitation is not counselling or teaching.

FOCCUS for the Future is a planning and summary sheet given to couples to complete and retain at the end of the process for recording their individual responses to the strengths and challenges in their relationship.

Marriage Care are looking for volunteers in Wrexham

- would you like to join us?
Become a marriage preparation course facilitator
We know there’s much more to marriage than the wedding day. Surprisingly though, many couples get so caught up in thinking about the special day that they don’t pay enough attention to the longer term. So, when their relationship encounters challenges, they are ill equipped to deal with them.
Our marriage preparation course facilitators are trained to deliver specially designed short (one-day) courses called Preparing Together to groups of couples. The courses alert couples to the issues and challenges of relationships and what it takes to achieve a strong, fulfilling, healthy relationship.

If you care about enabling others to achieve healthy couple relationships, and enjoy working with people in groups, this could be the right volunteering role for you.

We will give you full training and support so that you are confident and qualified to deliver the course.
