From 1st July 2008 the Catholic Office for the Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults was succeeded by the Catholic Safeguarding Advisory Service, and references to 'Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection' were replaced by the term 'Safeguarding'.

The Bishop has appointed a Commission to oversee the implementation of national Safeguarding policies and procedures in the Diocese. The Commission is chaired by Dr Pat Walters. It's members include: Pam Hunt - Parish liaison Rev Shaji Punnattu - Diocesan priest Rev Moses Amune . Religious priest Ms Philippa Ellison - Registered Social Worker Mrs Teresa Redfern Jones - Parish Safeguarding Mrs Christine Humphreyschris - Diocesan Youth DC Angela Nicklin - Police Mr Mike Greaney - Education Mrs Alison Brebner - Family Law In attendance: Keith McDonogh - Co-ordinator Rev Keith Windsor - Religious Adviser There are 2 vacancies currently; one for a Probation representative, and a second for the Diocesan priest adviser. The Commission meets quarterly.
